Ogoni Leaders Seek Strategic Partnership With Ministry Of Regional Development

A delegation of respected Ogoni leaders paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, and the Honourable Minister of State, His Excellency Uba Maigari Ahmadu, at the ministry headquarters in Abuja.

The high-powered delegation, led by Chief (Hon) Barry Mwara, Chairman from Ogoni, included key representatives from the major Local Government Areas of Ogoniland: Mr. Silas Meabe (Gokana), Mr. Stanley Dum (Tai), and Mr. Charles Saro (Eleme). Also part of the team were Mr. Lucky Kabari (Media Aide) and Mr. George Giadom (Director of Mobilization).

During the meeting, the Ogoni leaders passionately advocated for the advancement of empowerment programs and sustainable development initiatives in the region. They emphasized the importance of aligning the Ministry’s regional development blueprint with the ongoing struggles and aspirations of the Ogoni people, especially in light of their historical challenges and environmental realities.

The Ministers welcomed the delegation warmly, assuring them of the ministry’s readiness to engage constructively with critical stakeholders across the country. Engr. Momoh reiterated that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prioritizes inclusive development, particularly in historically marginalized regions like Ogoniland.

Discussions also touched on strategic collaboration, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment, with both parties agreeing to explore actionable frameworks for future engagement.
