In response to growing public concern over the rising cost of housing, Speaker Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh and Hon. Gbenda Terver have scheduled a pivotal stakeholders’ meeting for July 15, 2025.
The meeting will convene landlords, property agents, and selected tenants to address the escalating cost of rental accommodation.
Described as a consultative forum, the gathering aims to identify the underlying causes of the rent hike and develop actionable strategies to ease the financial strain on residents.
Sources within the Assembly told Daily Post that lawmakers expect the discussions to provide valuable perspectives from both tenants and property owners, paving the way for a balanced rent regulation policy.
Meanwhile, the House is reportedly close to finalizing legislation designed to regulate rent rates throughout the state, amid widespread complaints about unaffordable housing in cities like Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo.
