Liverpool’s latest acquisition, Alexander Isak, has finally broken his silence on his record-shattering £125m transfer from Newcastle United to Anfield, hinting that the full story behind the sensational deal has yet to be told.

The Swedish striker sealed the move on transfer deadline day after a tense summer standoff with Newcastle, setting a new British transfer record.

Speaking after featuring for Sweden in their 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss to Kosovo in Pristina on Monday, Isak suggested there were undisclosed details behind the switch.

“Not everyone knows the complete picture, but that’s a matter for another time,” he said.

Despite the storm surrounding the move, the 24-year-old expressed excitement at joining Liverpool.

“I can’t control everything that people say or write. What matters is that I’m happy to be a Liverpool player,” Isak added.

Coming off the bench for the final 18 minutes against Kosovo, he replaced fellow Newcastle forward Anthony Elanga, recorded three shots (two on target), and picked up a yellow card after clashing with defender Fidan Aliti.

The striker admitted relief that the transfer saga ended before international duty.

“It’s a big relief that everything was resolved before the camp so I could concentrate on football again. It was a new experience for me, but I’ve learned a lot mentally off the pitch,” he said.

Isak’s refusal to feature for Newcastle in pre-season friendlies and missing the opening league fixtures created tension with the club’s hierarchy, ultimately forcing through the move.

He had also been an unused substitute in Sweden’s 2-2 draw with Slovenia last Friday, with manager Jon Dahl Tomasson noting that he had managed just three training sessions before the Kosovo match.

Kosovo sealed their first Group B points with goals from Elvis Rexhbecaj and Vedat Muriqi, while Sweden slipped to third behind leaders Switzerland and second-placed Kosovo. Kosovo’s Lindon Emerllahu was sent off late for a second booking.

Now officially a Liverpool player, Isak is expected to return sharper and more settled as he prepares for a fresh chapter under manager Arne Slot at Anfield.
