Political Betrayal In Kogi: Onoja Reveals Yahaya Bello’s Secret Governorship Pledge
Former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja, has alleged that ex-Governor Yahaya Bello broke a personal promise to hand over power to him as his successor.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Saturday, Onoja revealed that Bello assured him as far back as 2019 that he would be the next governor of the state.
According to him, the shock came when Bello eventually threw his weight behind Usman Ododo, despite the earlier commitment.
“Four years before 2023, Yahaya Bello called me and said, ‘You will succeed me. Get prepared.’ It was both shocking and disappointing when he later told me he had chosen Ododo. When a friend gives you his word, you expect him to stand by it,” Onoja said.
Despite the setback, Onoja expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under Bello, describing the experience as a period of growth, learning, and national exposure.
Onoja served as Deputy Governor of Kogi State between 2019 and 2024, after previously working as Chief of Staff to Bello from January 2016 until his elevation in October 2019.
