Relief At Last: Tinubu Govt Splashes ₦330 Billion On Poor Nigerians React
The Federal Government has released ₦330 billion in cash transfers to poor and vulnerable Nigerians through the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This was announced on Wednesday by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, during a meeting of the Special Presidential Panel on the Social Investment Programme.
According to Edun, the initiative is aimed at cushioning the hardship caused by rising prices and ensuring relief reaches the most vulnerable citizens.
Naija News reports that the programme is being financed from the $800 million World Bank facility. Beneficiaries are verified using their National Identity Numbers (NIN), with payments made digitally through bank accounts or mobile wallets.
Edun assured that those yet to benefit would receive their payments before the end of the year.
“We are pleased to report that the social protection programme, designed as a safety net to help citizens cope with the rising cost of living, is now firmly back on track.
About 19.7 million poor and vulnerable households — representing more than 70 million individuals — are captured in the National Social Register.
Of this, 15 million households are eligible for the current round of cash transfers. So far, 8.5 million households have received at least one tranche of ₦25,000, with some getting two or three.
