Seyi, in a statement shared on his Instagram story on Friday, clarified that while he was aware some of his friends had contributed funds to assist Martins after the incident, he personally made no donation and does not support any action that breaches Lagos State laws.

Recall that Martins had earlier alleged that officers of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps disrupted her charity cooking outreach along a street median in Lekki, confiscated her equipment, and caused her minor burns from hot oil.

After the incident, social media users and several public figures reportedly rallied support for her initiative. Martins later announced on Instagram that Seyi Tinubu had gifted her ₦20 million and promised to expand her outreach, a claim that quickly went viral.

Reacting to the post, Seyi Tinubu wrote:

“I was informed that some of my friends, moved by compassion, raised funds to support a young lady who had an encounter with the law over an environmental issue. Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space for her work, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness.”

However, he stressed that while the gesture was well-intentioned, he does not condone acts that violate the law.

“That said, I must emphasise that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State. Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for law and order. Empathy and patriotism must always go together.”

He concluded by encouraging Nigerians to offer help responsibly, ensuring that humanitarian acts align with the laws and values that hold society together.
