Millions On The Line! What Super Eagles Can Make From AFCON 2025 Revealed
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be aiming for a historic fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph when they travel to Morocco for the 2025 tournament.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Nigeria last claimed the continental crown in 2013, and none of the players from that title-winning squad feature in the current team assembled by head coach Eric Chelle. Nevertheless, the squad boasts several of Africa’s top stars, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
Nigerian supporters remain cautiously optimistic, shaped by the team’s recent disappointments. The Super Eagles missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite reaching the playoff stage and also delivered a lacklustre display in their only pre-AFCON friendly.
However, the competition in Morocco offers a chance for redemption. In addition to national glory, significant financial rewards await the players and coaching crew, adding extra incentive.
In recent editions, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has consistently raised AFCON prize money. The 2025 tournament maintains a total prize pool of $32 million, matching the amount offered in 2023. Nigeria has already secured $350,000 for finishing top of their qualification group.
Prize money distribution for AFCON 2025 is as follows:
-
Group stage (4th place): $500,000
-
Group stage (3rd place): $700,000
-
Round of 16: $800,000
-
Quarterfinals: $1.3 million
-
Semifinals: $2.5 million
-
Runner-up: $4 million
-
Champions: $7 million
Should the Super Eagles emerge victorious in Morocco, their total earnings would amount to $11.6 million, approximately ₦17.4 billion.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will kick off on December 21 and conclude on January 18, 2026.
