BREAKING: Fubara Gains Breathing Space As Fresh Lawmakers Pull Out Of Impeachment Plan
Two more lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have appealed to their colleagues to suspend the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The call was made by Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, barely a day after two other legislators issued a similar appeal in favour of dialogue and peace.
Although the lawmakers maintained that the governor and his deputy allegedly violated constitutional provisions, they explained that their decision to soften their stance followed interventions from respected leaders and stakeholders within the state.
With this development, four out of the 26 lawmakers who initially endorsed the impeachment notice have now stepped back, advocating a peaceful resolution to the political crisis. The unfolding situation suggests a growing inclination among some assembly members to seek alternatives to the impeachment process.
The Rivers State House of Assembly is scheduled to reconvene on January 15, 2026, to deliberate further on the issue.
Meanwhile, Naija News recalls that Sylvanus Nwankwo, the Minority Leader representing Omuma Constituency, alongside Peter Abbey of Degema Constituency, had earlier withdrawn their support for the impeachment bid. They cited appeals from influential political figures within and outside Rivers State, who urged lawmakers to prioritise reconciliation over impeachment.
