The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong, has called on the courts to refrain from interfering in the party’s internal matters before its members become politicians.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ememobong made the appeal during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.

He criticized the court ruling that nullified the PDP convention in Ibadan, alluding to the relationship between the Chief Judge and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

“Well, this verdict reflects the reasoning my lord applied in reaching it, though I doubt that the party’s constitution provides for a national caretaker in such a situation,” Ememobong said. “I have great respect for the court, which is why I believe it should stay out of the party’s internal affairs to avoid the perception of politicization. Perception and reality may differ, but when they converge in a way that undermines public trust in a process, there is a problem.”

He added, “I’m not making accusations, but consider a situation where the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court visits the FCT Minister seeking land and housing for judges of the Federal High Court. The event was public, and the minister even asked about the judges across different jurisdictions. These are the same people who later hear related cases. We are not alleging wrongdoing, but perception matters because a fundamental principle of law is that justice must not only be done—it must also be seen to be done.”
