The closure, expected to last approximately 22 months, is for major rehabilitation and expansion works.

During this period, international passengers will use a temporary departure hall covering 8,000 square metres. This facility, which is nearly complete, will initially accommodate operations for five to six international airlines. Passengers are advised to arrive earlier than usual as airlines transition to the temporary terminal.

International arrivals and cargo operations will continue from other sections of the airport.

The upgrade project includes a new skywalk connecting Terminals 1 and 2, improvements to the road network, and a larger apron to handle wide-body aircraft. The renovations aim to boost capacity and modernize facilities at one of Nigeria’s busiest airports, ensuring a smoother travel experience for passengers.

In a separate incident, six passengers were confirmed dead in a road accident near the Foursquare Camp along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, with 23 others injured. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported the crash in a statement on Monday in Abeokuta. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odunsin Afolabi, fatigue and speeding caused the driver to lose control, leading to the accident.
