In a statement on Friday, Melaye criticized the Senate’s decision, calling it a serious blow to the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process. He described the move as an open endorsement of election manipulation and a sign of a sinister plan to influence the 2027 vote.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain added that rejecting electronic transmission opens the door to widespread electoral fraud, and represents a major step backward for democracy in Nigeria. He urged lawmakers and citizens to resist what he called “this blatant attempt to undermine the will of the people” and to ensure that future elections are free, fair, and transparent.

Meanwhile, the ADC condemned the APC-led 10th Senate’s refusal to approve key reforms to the Electoral Act designed to enhance the credibility of elections and improve the efficiency of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the Senate’s actions as a deliberate attempt to weaken Nigeria’s democracy. The ADC specifically criticized the Senate for rejecting electronic transmission of results, the electronic download of voter cards, reducing election notice periods, and significantly shortening the timelines for publishing candidate lists.

According to the ADC, these decisions reveal the ruling party’s fear of truly free and fair elections in 2027, despite its current political dominance.
