We Will Expose You’ — Dangote Refinery Threatens Court Battle Over False Import Claims
The Dangote Refinery has announced that it has identified those behind claims that it imports petrol into Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released on Monday, the refinery was responding to reports attributed to an international intelligence firm, which it described as misleading and inaccurate.
The company said it plans to reveal the identities and motives of the individuals spreading the false narrative at the appropriate time.
“This propaganda is being promoted by unpatriotic and unscrupulous individuals who cannot bear to see Nigeria stop imports—people who previously profited from fraudulent financing of NNPC refineries, which was ultimately squandered. These individuals will soon have their day in court,” the statement read.
Dangote Refinery stressed that the reports misrepresent its operations and distort the reality of Nigeria’s refining sector. The firm categorically rejected claims, amplified through newspaper adverts on Monday, February 9, 2026, suggesting it imports finished Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country.
The refinery added that the misinformation was addressed during an S&P Global forum held in the United Kingdom, where its pivotal role in reshaping the global refining landscape was recognized.
Dangote Refinery clarified that it does not import petrol into Nigeria. Instead, it only imports feedstocks and blending components to optimize secondary-unit utilization.
“These materials, including high sulphur reformates, low-RON condensates, and high sulphur cracked gasoline, require further processing to meet regulated market specifications,” the refinery explained.
The company described the claims as deceptive and reaffirmed its commitment to global best practices as a merchant refinery.
