The high-level meeting took place at the Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin and formed part of the state’s immediate response to the incident, which has raised serious security concerns across parts of the North-Central region.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Governor AbdulRazaq said the gathering was aimed at assessing the security situation and tightening coordination among security agencies to address emerging threats.
“As part of our multi-layered response to the recent terrorist attack in Kaiama LGA, I convened an emergency security council meeting at the Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin,” the governor said.
“I received detailed briefings from all security commanders in the state, and we discussed concrete strategies to neutralise threats and better protect lives and property.”
The governor expressed confidence that the outcomes of the meeting would help stabilise the security situation and restore peace to affected communities.
“I am optimistic that the decisions reached during our deliberations will significantly improve security and help restore calm across our communities,” he added.
The emergency meeting came amid intensified security operations in Kaiama and neighbouring areas, following coordinated attacks in the locality. Security agencies have reportedly deployed additional military and police personnel to forest routes believed to be used by armed groups, as part of efforts to prevent further violence.
Officials said the consultations were also focused on improving intelligence sharing, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, and enhancing rapid response capabilities, particularly in vulnerable rural communities.
Meanwhile, Governors AbdulRazaq, Usman Ododo of Kogi State, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State had on Sunday visited victims of last week’s attack in Woro community, also in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The injured victims are currently receiving medical care at the General Hospital in Ilorin.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Oyebanji described the attack as tragic and expressed solidarity with the Kwara State Government and affected residents.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Kwara State over this unfortunate incident,” he said.
He also commended the Federal Government and security agencies for their swift intervention, noting that the victims were stable but still under close medical observation.
Oyebanji added that Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states would continue to strengthen regional cooperation to combat cross-border criminal activities threatening communities in the area.
