Political Tension In Kano: NNPP Cautions Assembly Over Planned Deputy Governor Impeachment

The warning was issued on Thursday in a statement by the party’s Kano State Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye.

In the statement, the NNPP urged lawmakers to take into account the ongoing political realignments and defections across the state before proceeding with any action against the deputy governor.

The party noted that elected officials should not be pressured into making decisions that conflict with their personal convictions or political beliefs.

It also advised the Kano State Government to refrain from actions that could heighten tensions or trigger a political crisis in the state.

According to the NNPP, the political atmosphere in Kano is already fragile, and any step that could further destabilize the situation must be handled with utmost caution.

The party emphasized that its members are law-abiding and remain committed to democratic values, stressing that individuals should be allowed to freely express their political views without intimidation or discrimination.

Recall that the Kano State House of Assembly had earlier initiated impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

The lawmakers accused the deputy governor of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and actions they claimed breached the public trust placed in him.
