The meeting took place just days after the Sultan was absent from the President’s interfaith Iftar dinner with religious and traditional leaders held on March 9.

At the event, the Sultan was represented by the Yahaya Abubakar, who attended on behalf of both the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Sultan.

The meeting between Tinubu and the Sultan also occurred less than a week before the conclusion of the Ramadan fasting period.

Photographs released by the State House media office on Sunday showed the President and the Sultan exchanging greetings during what appeared to be a private meeting.

The Sultan, who serves as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has maintained regular consultations with the President on national issues.

Since the start of the Ramadan fasting season, Tinubu has hosted several Iftar gatherings at the Presidential Villa.

The dinners have brought together governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, security chiefs, and leaders of various political parties.

At the March 9 interfaith Iftar, which brought together Muslim and Christian leaders as well as traditional rulers from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity.

“Our unity is unshakable,” Tinubu declared during the event.

Among those represented at the dinner was the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Daniel Okoh, who was represented by the President of Evangelical Church Winning All, Stephen Baba-Panya.
