He posted a photo holding the newborn alongside the caption, “Best gift ever.” The couple, who have been together since 2022 and recently celebrated their second anniversary, confirmed the birth, with Fontes also sharing hospital photos on her social media page.
Onyemaechi’s absence from the Nigeria national football team training camp following the friendly against Iran had sparked speculation, but the update now explains his absence as he travelled to be with his partner for the birth.
As a result, his availability for Nigeria’s upcoming friendly against Jordan remains uncertain. The 26-year-old had featured in the match against Iran before leaving camp.
Fontes, a content creator, has been a constant presence at his matches, and the pair had earlier revealed they were expecting through social media posts in March.
Onyemaechi currently plays for Greek club Olympiacos F.C., and the couple has not disclosed the gender of their child.
