Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly took El-Rufai into custody on Wednesday shortly after proceedings at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

El-Rufai, who is facing corruption charges, had just concluded a hearing on his bail application in a case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission when DSS operatives escorted him into a vehicle and transported him to Abuja.

The court adjourned the case to April 14 for further consideration of the bail application.

Reacting to the development, Atiku, through his media aide, Paul Ibe, alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) made unsuccessful attempts to influence El-Rufai, suggesting that their efforts were rebuffed.

He maintained that El-Rufai has the right to freely choose his political path, describing such freedom as a core principle of democracy.

According to the statement, the situation confirms earlier claims that El-Rufai’s detention and arraignment are politically driven. It further noted that authorities did not obtain proper court approval before his release.

Atiku urged that the authorities ensure El-Rufai’s continued freedom and respect due process, emphasizing that every citizen has the right to independent political choices.
