Mpigi passed away at the age of 64 on Thursday, February 19, and his funeral service was held on Friday in Port Harcourt.
During the ceremony, the former Rivers State governor recalled the close relationship he shared with the late senator, noting how Mpigi often visited him in Abuja and consistently affirmed his loyalty, saying, “Master, I will not leave you.”
Wike became visibly emotional after recounting the memory, struggling to hold back tears during his tribute.
In other developments, Wike has revealed that he closely monitors media coverage about him, stating that he personally keeps track of commentary from individuals he considers political opponents.
He explained that he regularly watches major Nigerian television networks, including Africa Independent Television (AIT), TVC News, and Channels Television, to stay informed about public discourse.
According to him, he prefers to receive information directly rather than depend on aides or intermediaries for updates.
“I watch news all the time—AIT News, TVC News, Channels—I watch all of them,” he said.
