The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Obi Aguocha, has said that his consistent calls for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, have come with significant personal and political consequences.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Aguocha stated that he has experienced losses and negative profiling as a result of his position, but maintained that he has no regrets.

He noted that his advocacy has led to him being singled out politically, saying he has been “marked” by some actors for his stance on Kanu and related constitutional matters.

Despite this, he emphasized that his actions are based on conviction and a commitment to justice, insisting he stands firmly by his position.

The lawmaker also revealed that he was given the exclusive mandate by Kanu to negotiate efforts toward securing his release, describing it as a sign of trust in his representation.

He further criticised some leaders in the South-East for allegedly avoiding discussions surrounding Kanu’s detention and broader regional issues, calling for more courage and unity among political stakeholders.

Aguocha urged South-East leaders to adopt a more coordinated approach similar to that used in securing the release of activist Sunday Igboho, stressing that unity would be key to achieving progress in Kanu’s case.

He also commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for initiating efforts to mobilise South-East governors in support of Kanu’s release, describing it as a positive step toward regional cooperation.

Looking ahead, Aguocha added that Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, would not defeat Governor Otti in the 2027 governorship election.
