Speaking during an interview on News Central on April 18, 2026, Farotimi argued that Akpabio’s rise reflects deeper flaws within Nigeria’s political and electoral system.
He maintained that the current system allows individuals he believes do not meet the necessary standards to occupy key public offices.
Farotimi pointed to what he described as irregularities in the legal and procedural framework surrounding Akpabio’s participation in the process that led to his leadership position, suggesting that certain provisions of the Electoral Act governing eligibility were not properly adhered to.
According to him, this raises concerns about whether due process was fully followed and whether established rules were applied as required.
He stressed that the issue extends beyond Akpabio as an individual and highlights broader challenges in how political offices are attained in the country.
Farotimi insisted that, in his view, Akpabio should not have been eligible to contest in the first place, citing provisions of the electoral law.
