A political support group, Gbaja Network for Asiwaju 2027, has come out in defence of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, following backlash over his controversial remarks to a federal lawmaker regarding the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The controversy stemmed from a viral video in which Gbajabiamila was seen advising a faction within the ADC, led by Nafiu Gombe and House of Representatives member Leke Abejide, to remain in the party and “fight and scatter” it from within. Speaking at a birthday celebration organised by Abejide, he also commended the lawmaker for his contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and urged him to ignore calls to formally defect to the ruling party.
His comments sparked criticism from opposition figures, with Chief Olabode George demanding an apology, while activist Timi Frank called for Gbajabiamila’s resignation. However, in a statement signed by its National President, Gideon Unazi, the Gbaja Network dismissed the backlash, describing the remarks as a “bold and unapologetic expression of political conviction.”
The group argued that Gbajabiamila’s statement should be understood within the context of competitive politics, where parties often employ strategic tactics to gain advantage. It maintained that political strategy is a normal part of democratic practice and should not be misinterpreted as wrongdoing. According to the group, it is unrealistic to expect a senior APC figure to actively strengthen opposition parties ahead of elections.
The network also criticised Bode George’s reaction, describing it as “predictable outrage,” and insisted that political competition in Nigeria has always involved strategic positioning among rival parties. It reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu and his second-term ambition, noting that Gbajabiamila remains a key figure in advancing the administration’s agenda.
While acknowledging that Gbajabiamila’s comments were blunt, the group said they reflect the realities of political competition and urged politicians to focus on strengthening their own platforms rather than reacting to what it described as frank political expressions.
