Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, and African Democratic Congress (ADC) member, Aisha Yesufu, have criticised former Senator Shehu Sani over his comments about ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sani, during a podcast interview, argued that support for Peter Obi is based on ethnicity, claiming that most of his supporters share the same ethnic background. He further stated that even if Obi became President, “nothing would change.”

He said: “The support for Peter Obi is tribal. Many of those supporting him are people who come from his ethnic background. If Peter Obi becomes President of Nigeria today, nothing will change, everything will be the same.”

Reacting via his handle, Odinkalu reposted the interview and challenged Sani’s position, suggesting that he could test his claim by encouraging Obi’s candidacy and allowing voters to decide.

He wrote: “My brother, @ShehuSani, sometimes it is ok to pass…. But there is an easy way to prove your thesis – campaign for @PeterObi to be on the ballot so that his tribesmen & women get the opportunity to vote themselves into perdition. That should not be that difficult, no?”

Also reacting, Aisha Yesufu dismissed Sani’s remarks as baseless, describing them as “laughable at best and pathetic at worst,” and insisting that claims of tribal-driven support for Obi had collapsed in 2022.

She wrote: “Exactly! The orchestrated attacks against Peter Obi @PeterObi is laughable at best and pathetic at worst! The lie that his support base is tribal died in 2022.

“We proved beyond reasonable doubt that the 4 people that were tweeting in the room in 2022 were from the 4 corners of the country!

“If Peter Obi was not a threat to their illegitimate occupation of the seat of power, APC and their supporters would not have made Peter Obi their fascination that they talk about all the time.”
