A former vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed the possibility of opposition parties uniting behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he reacted to the recent “Ibadan Declaration” by opposition figures proposing a unified candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.
Baba-Ahmed argued that the Ibadan meeting did not represent the full opposition, saying it was limited to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and therefore could not claim to speak for all opposition forces.
He questioned the feasibility of the proposed alliance, insisting that the parties involved lack the cohesion required to agree on a single flagbearer.
He further noted that the PDP faction present at the meeting does not reflect the entire party, pointing to ongoing internal divisions within its ranks.
According to him, it is unrealistic for only two parties to position themselves as the totality of the opposition bloc, describing the idea as unlikely to succeed.
In his words, he strongly dismissed the plan for a unified candidate, saying the parties involved would struggle to reach consensus and that the proposal does not reflect political reality.
