The family of 24-year-old civil engineer, Abdulsamad Jamiu, has accused soldiers attached to the Presidential Brigade of Guards of shooting him dead inside his bedroom in Kubwa, Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

They said the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, April 26, 2026, during what the military reportedly described as a response to a robbery alert, which they now claim was a case of mistaken identity.

However, the family insists there was no robbery or exchange of gunfire in the area.

Jamiu, also known as Kesh, was a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who was due to complete his service in May. He graduated with a second-class upper degree in civil engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and was reportedly planning a future career in the Nigerian Army through the Direct Short Service Commission.

His foster father, Engr. MomohSani Jimoh, said he was away in Kogi State for his mother’s burial rites when he received a distress call from his daughter.

He recounted that she called around 2:04 a.m. saying, “Daddy, daddy, the worst has happened… they have killed Samad,” before the call abruptly ended.

Jimoh said he immediately left Kogi for Abuja, alleging that soldiers entered the compound by scaling a section of the fence after the main gate was locked. He insisted there was no evidence of gunfire exchange in the community apart from a single shot heard inside their residence.

The deceased’s sister, Farida Jimoh, also alleged that she was awakened by a gunshot and later encountered soldiers inside the house. She claimed they flashed torches in her face, prevented her from making calls, and insisted she remain calm.

She further alleged that after entering her brother’s room, she found him dead and later screamed for help, but was ordered by one of the soldiers to keep quiet.

The family also rejected the military’s claim of a robbery operation, saying a soldier later admitted to them that the shooting was a mistake and urged them to remain calm.

Jimoh further alleged that soldiers instructed local vigilance members to clean the room after the body was removed, a claim he said was relayed through Hausa-speaking exchanges between journalists and the vigilante team.

He also alleged that soldiers seized his daughter’s phone temporarily and restricted her from making calls before eventually returning it.

According to the family, military officials have since visited the residence, including a delegation led by a Colonel representing the Chief of Defence Staff. They said the officials promised a full investigation and assured them the matter would not be covered up.

Police officers reportedly took statements from family members and neighbours, while the Divisional Police Officer said the military had already moved the body to Kubwa General Hospital before his arrival at the scene.
