In an article titled “2027: Don’t Pull Down the Roof,” Shettima urged contenders to resist being swayed by media narratives or external influences.

He stressed that despite differences in ambition, support bases, regional interests, strategies, and desired outcomes, all aspirants remain part of one political family.

Shettima warned that political actors must not fall prey to manipulation by the media, troublemakers, or vested interests seeking to create division. According to him, it is common in politics for narratives to emerge suggesting that certain leaders have been sidelined or particular groups unfairly treated—tactics designed to breed suspicion and turn allies into rivals even before the real contest begins.

He emphasized that true leadership requires rising above such provocations, urging aspirants to reflect on who truly benefits when internal conflicts weaken the party ahead of facing opposition forces.

The Vice President further noted that a fundamental reality of politics is that only one candidate can emerge from any primary contest. While many individuals will campaign, invest resources, and receive encouragement, the process inevitably produces a single nominee—a result that may be disappointing for others but is a natural outcome of democratic competition.

He added that the real measure of a politician lies not in how they act in victory, but in how they handle defeat. Celebrating success is easy, he said, but managing disappointment with maturity and character is what defines leadership.

Addressing the issue of endorsements, which has stirred debate within the party, Shettima acknowledged that political preferences are normal. Leaders and stakeholders, he noted, are entitled to support candidates they believe can strengthen the party and advance public interest.

However, he warned that such preferences must not be used to provoke, intimidate, or exclude others. According to him, the integrity and credibility of the process are essential to maintaining the party’s legitimacy.

He concluded by urging party leaders to act fairly and ensure that all aspirants are treated with respect and dignity throughout the process.
