The case, being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, involves El-Rufai and co-defendant Joel Adoga, who are facing a 10-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering, conversion of funds, and handling proceeds of corruption. Both defendants have denied the allegations.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the defence counsel requested that El-Rufai be allowed to receive treatment for dental and eye conditions at Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital in Abuja.
Justice Rilwan Aikawa granted the application, ordering that the anti-corruption agency should escort the former governor to the approved medical facilities under strict security whenever treatment is required. The court further directed that he must be returned to custody immediately after each visit, with all movements closely supervised.
The ICPC confirmed it would comply with the court’s directive while ensuring that the defendant remains in lawful custody in line with his bail conditions.
El-Rufai was earlier granted bail in the sum of ₦200 million with two sureties, while his co-accused was also granted administrative bail.
The matter has been adjourned to May 7, 2026, for a ruling on the application seeking a variation of the bail conditions.
