Uzodinma was screened on Saturday by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, as part of the party’s preparations for its primary election.

If elected in the January 2027 senatorial election and sworn in by June 2027, Uzodinma would be expected to resign as governor about six to seven months before the completion of his tenure, which ends in January 2028.

Under the constitutional arrangement, his deputy, Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, would take over the leadership of Imo State for the remainder of the administration’s term.

Ekomaru became deputy governor on January 15, 2024, alongside Uzodinma during the commencement of his second tenure in office.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced that its 2027 presidential ticket has been zoned to Southern Nigeria.

The declaration was made during the party’s National Convention in Abuja on Saturday. According to the party, the South will produce the presidential candidate for a single four-year term in 2027, after which the ticket will rotate to the North in 2031.

The NDC explained that the arrangement was adopted in line with its power-sharing and regional balancing principles aimed at promoting national unity, easing sectional tensions, and strengthening inclusiveness within the party.
