The aspirants also announced their support for former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, as their preferred candidate for the senatorial seat.

The resolution was reportedly reached during a closed-door meeting in Abuja said to have been facilitated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The meeting reportedly lasted several hours before all parties agreed on the arrangement.

Speaking after the gathering, the aspirants — Usman Bala, Sha’aban Sharada, Muhammad Zango, Danyaro Yakasai, Abbas Sani Abbas, and Shehu Isa Driver — explained that their decision to step down was aimed at promoting unity, peace, and political stability in Kano State.

According to them, backing Shekarau was part of a broader effort to strengthen cohesion within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shekarau recently joined the APC after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former governor announced his defection at his residence on Mundubawa Avenue in Kano, where supporters and APC campaign materials filled the venue.

Explaining his move, Shekarau said the decision came after wide consultations and careful political consideration.

He asked supporters if they agreed with the decision after weighing all available options, inviting anyone with objections to speak openly.

Shekarau defected to the APC alongside former senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo and other PDP loyalists.
