Shehu Sani, who previously represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has expressed concern that many Nigerians place more emphasis on the presidential election than on who becomes their lawmakers at both state and federal levels.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He made this known during an appearance on Channels TV, where he also argued that strong governance in the country would depend on having an independent and effective Senate.

Sani said he believes Nigerians often overlook the importance of legislative offices, focusing instead on the presidency, despite the critical role lawmakers play in governance.

He also explained his interest in returning to the Senate, stating that the law permits individuals to contest for legislative seats multiple times, as there is no fixed tenure limit for members of the National Assembly.

According to him, “I’m going back to the Senate because the laws allow it. There is no tenure limit in the National Assembly, whether Senate or House of Representatives. When your people believe you still have more to offer, you have a responsibility to represent them well.”

He further noted: “Nigerians are more concerned about who becomes president. They don’t usually take seriously who becomes their lawmakers at the state or federal level, and that is very important.”

Sani added that a strong and independent Senate is key to good governance, stressing that if the legislature maintains its integrity and autonomy, it will positively impact the country’s overall leadership structure.
