The actor made the disclosure during an interview on TVC Entertainment, where he explained why he turned down an offer to return to the series.
According to Lanre, despite the popularity and visibility the role brought him, the project did not translate into financial success and also prevented him from taking up other acting opportunities that could have boosted his career.
He disclosed that after leaving the show, he found himself spending more money than he earned and struggled financially for months.
“I came out of ‘Wura’, and I was spending more than I made. I came out poorer,” he said, adding that there was a period when things became so difficult he could barely afford basic necessities until YouTube projects helped him recover financially.
The actor further claimed that several promises allegedly made during negotiations were never fulfilled.
While acknowledging that the role gave him recognition, he maintained that the production restricted him from participating in other movie projects throughout the nearly 11 months of filming.
Lanre specifically mentioned missing out on opportunities, including a role in House of Gaa, where he said he was initially expected to portray Aláàfin Abiodun after assisting with the film’s English-to-Yorùbá translation.
He also dismissed fears that his comments could trigger legal consequences, insisting that he contributed unique creative elements and expressions to the show that are still being used.
