War Of Words Erupts! Ikonne Rejects ‘4-Year Deal’ As He Takes Direct Swipe At Peter Obi

An aspirant for the Abia South Senatorial District under the ruling All Progressives Congress, Prince Paul Ikonne, has declared that the Igbo people are not interested in producing a president who would serve for only one term....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ikonne made the remarks during a media interaction in Abuja on Thursday while reacting to comments by former presidential candidate Peter Obi, who had pledged to serve a single four-year term if elected president.

Rejecting the idea, Ikonne argued that whenever the South East eventually produces Nigeria’s president, the region deserves a full eight-year tenure just like other geopolitical zones have enjoyed.

According to him, key political figures and governors from the South East, including Alex Otti, are already working toward the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

“Why would he promise to govern for only four years?” Ikonne asked. “Other regions have enjoyed eight years, so why should the South East settle for less? No true Igbo person wants a four-year presidency. When the time comes for an Igbo president, it should be for a complete eight-year tenure.”

He also disclosed that Hope Uzodimma has reportedly put together a mobilisation structure aimed at rallying Igbo communities across Nigeria in support of Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

According to Ikonne, the President is expected to receive significant support from Igbo voters nationwide, not just from the South East.

“Igbo people will not make that kind of mistake,” he added. “We cannot allow ourselves to be convinced into supporting someone for only four years. Before he settles into office, appoints ministers, and fully understands the workings of government, the tenure would already be ending.”
