This follows the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the killing of a globally wanted terrorist, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, said to be the second-in-command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

President Bola Tinubu also confirmed the operation and commended Trump for his support and leadership in the mission.

Speaking in an interview with CNN, Bwala said more coordinated operations between both countries are expected soon.

He stated that “in the coming days, we will see more and more of these operations,” adding that such missions would become more frequent.

When asked whether U.S. or Nigerian forces primarily provided the intelligence that led to the strike, Bwala explained that there is strong intelligence cooperation between both countries.

He noted that intelligence sharing typically begins with local input from the area where operations take place, while highlighting the advantage of U.S. military capabilities.

According to him, “the Americans have military hardware that we do not have,” adding that ongoing discussions between both nations include how such support can strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
