Beyond The Niger Delta: How Abubakar Momoh Is Helping To Redefine Regional Development In Nigeria

For years, regional development in Nigeria was often viewed through a narrow lens, with conversations largely centered around specific intervention agencies and localized challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Today, that conversation is changing.

Under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, the Ministry of Regional Development is evolving into a national platform for coordinated growth, infrastructure expansion, community empowerment, and inclusive development across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

From the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the South South to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the North West Development Commission (NWDC), from the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), South West Development Commission (SWDC), and South South Development Commission (SSDC), Nigeria is witnessing the emergence of a more coordinated regional development architecture. Under the leadership of Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, the Ministry of Regional Development is helping to align these commissions toward a common goal: balanced growth, infrastructure expansion, economic empowerment, and inclusive national development

The emergence and strengthening of regional development commissions across the country signal a new approach, one that recognizes that every region has unique challenges, opportunities, and developmental priorities that deserve targeted attention.

As Minister, Momoh has consistently emphasized collaboration, strategic planning, and institutional coordination as critical tools for ensuring that development reachxes communities that need it most.

His role goes beyond supervising agencies.

It is about helping to build a framework where regional development becomes a catalyst for economic growth, infrastructure delivery, job creation, environmental sustainability, and social stability.

In many ways, the story is no longer just about one region.

It is about creating a Nigeria where development is deliberately decentralized, opportunities are more evenly distributed, and every region has a stronger pathway to growth.

That is why many observers now see the Ministry of Regional Development as one of the most strategic institutions driving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

And at the centre of that transformation is Engr. Abubakar Momoh, a technocrat, administrator, and development strategist helping to shape a new chapter in Nigeria’s regional development story.
