The exercise, which was initially scheduled for Thursday, May 21, has now been shifted to Friday, May 22.

Although no official reason was provided for the postponement, the decision came after mobilisation and voting activities had already begun in some centres across the state.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday afternoon by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Abdulwaheed Olawale Babatunde.

“The APC Governorship Primary earlier scheduled to hold today, Thursday, 21st May 2026, has been postponed,” the statement said.

The sudden postponement created confusion among party members and delegates who had already assembled in several wards for the exercise.

Speaking on the development, the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, said the directive came from the party’s national leadership.

According to him, officials from the APC national office arrived and instructed that the election should be moved to the following day.

“We don’t have details for the cancellation other than the fact that the team from the national office came and instructed that the election will be held tomorrow,” he said.

Reacting to the situation, the leader of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitoring team in Adewole Ward, Paula Iwenjuora, stated that the commission’s role was strictly observational.

She explained that INEC officials were only present to monitor the process and ensure that the exercise remained peaceful and orderly, without interfering in party activities.
