Sh*ck Twist In APC Primaries: Tuggar Loses Bauchi Governorship Ticket After Cabinet Resignation Gamble Backfires

Former Governor of Bauchi State Mohammed Abubakar has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, defeating former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and six other aspirants.

The announcement was made on Saturday morning by the Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police John Abang, after the exercise was delayed for several hours.

According to the official results, Abubakar secured 57,517 votes to clinch the ticket, while Tuggar polled 26,001 votes. Nura Manu Soro came third with 13,638 votes.

Other contestants included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who scored 13,648 votes, Kabir Baba Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, who garnered 7,181 votes.

Tuggar was among the federal appointees who complied with President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring cabinet members seeking elective office in 2027 to resign before March 31, 2027.

During his campaign, Tuggar described his ambition as a unifying project aimed at strengthening the party and promoting development in Bauchi State.

He said his participation was intended to encourage internal democracy and healthy competition within the APC, insisting that his aspiration was not divisive but collectively focused on progress for the state.
