Tension As DLA Presidential Hopeful Calls For Refund Of Campaign Nomination Fee

She said her decision to quit the party followed what she described as the failure of the DLA to conduct a free, fair, and transparent primary election.

Her resignation was contained in a formal letter addressed to the party’s National Chairman.

The former party chieftain expressed concern over the party’s adoption of a consensus arrangement, describing it as a development that could undermine internal democracy and weaken the party’s growth.

She wrote: “I write to notify you, and through you the National Working Committee, of my resignation as a member of the Democratic Leadership Alliance with immediate effect from the date of this letter.

“I do not resign in defeat. I resign because I am not allowed a fair contest, and I will not associate my name with a process that has abandoned its own rules.”

Busari-Akinnadeju further requested written confirmation of her resignation, a refund of her presidential nomination fee, and the return of any personal documents or materials in the possession of the party or its officials.

She also appreciated party members across the country who supported her political journey, noting that they should not be blamed for her decision to leave.

“I record my gratitude to members of the party across the country who gave their time and hope to the work we shared. They joined for the right reasons. They are not the cause of this decision, and they deserve better than the conduct of those who now lead them,” she said.

Despite her resignation, she maintained that her ambition for the 2027 presidential race and her “Dare Nigeria” agenda remained intact.

She added that her determination had been strengthened by recent experiences, insisting she would continue her political efforts on a platform she considers more credible.

Busari-Akinnadeju also argued that her experience within the party reinforced her belief that internal democracy was essential for national leadership, stating that a party unable to conduct fair primaries could not effectively govern a country.

She hails from Akungba Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
