The movement’s national coordinator made the appeal in a statement shared with Naija News, stressing the need for unity ahead of the exercise.
He said members must keep their attention on the broader goal of securing Peter Obi’s place on the ballot for the 2027 presidential election.
“As we proceed into the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries scheduled for today, May 29, 2026, we, members of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, make a sincere but firm appeal to all aspirants and members of the party to embrace unity, discipline, maturity, sacrifice, and focus,” he said.
Tanko explained that the alliance within the NDC was intentional and should not be weakened by personal ambitions.
“Our convergence under the NDC is deliberate and strategic,” he noted.
“Our collective objective is to ensure that the candidature of His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi is on the ballot for the 2027 general elections. We must not allow individual ambition to derail our shared mission.”
He further stated that the movement’s goal is to promote people-focused governance anchored on competence, capacity, commitment, character, and compassion.
He urged all aspirants to accept the outcome of the primaries in good faith, noting that not everyone would emerge victorious.
“In every democratic process, there will be winners and losers,” he said. “We must be prepared for possible setbacks and demonstrate sportsmanship at all times.”
Tanko also encouraged aggrieved members to seek resolution through internal party mechanisms rather than resorting to court actions, which he said could harm the party’s progress.
He warned that political opponents are closely monitoring developments within the party and could exploit any internal disagreements.
He concluded by urging members to unite after the primaries and focus on the larger goal of winning the 2027 elections, adding that the movement envisions a Nigeria where opportunity is not determined by connections but by capability.
