The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has debunked a viral letter circulating online that claimed security personnel would be deployed to examination centres for the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Moyosola Adesina, WAEC described the document as fake, stressing that it did not originate from the examination body. The council said the publication was fabricated by individuals aiming to mislead the public and cause confusion during the examination period.

WAEC clarified that the letter was not issued by the office of the Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration or any other department within WAEC Nigeria.

The council also stated that it had not authorized any directive for the deployment of security operatives to examination centres nationwide.

According to WAEC, the forged letter, dated May 27, 2026, was falsely addressed to school owners and principals across the country.

It further claimed that arrangements had been concluded to deploy officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to all exam centres starting June 1.

WAEC noted that the document also carried a fake signature purportedly belonging to the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration, S.D. Kum, in an attempt to appear authentic.

The examination body condemned the circulation of the fake letter, saying it was intended to mislead school administrators, parents, and candidates while creating unnecessary tension around the ongoing examinations.

WAEC urged school authorities, supervisors, invigilators, parents, and the general public to disregard the letter entirely, describing it as false and not an official communication from the council.

It advised stakeholders to rely only on verified updates from its official communication channels regarding the conduct of the 2026 WASSCE.

“The Management of the West African Examinations Council categorically states that the said letter is fake, as it did not originate from the office of the Senior Deputy Registrar (Test Administration) or any other department within WAEC Nigeria,” the council stated.
