I Moved From Frying Pan To Hell Fire” — Aspirant Regrets Dumping APC For NDC

Speaking during an interview on Arise News’ News Day on Friday, the former House of Representatives member alleged that despite winning the NDC senatorial primary, he was being denied the chance to appear on the ballot.
Agbonayinwa explained that the party eventually conducted a direct primary after efforts to reach a consensus among aspirants failed.
“We moved to a direct primary after attempts to agree on a consensus candidate collapsed. We were kept in discussions with other aspirants and encouraged to step down for one another, but that didn’t happen,” he said.
He noted that although the NDC is a relatively new party, he had never experienced such uncertainty while in either the APC or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The primary was held on May 29, yet as of June 5, the results have still not been officially announced. In all my years in APC and PDP, I have never witnessed anything like this,” he stated.
Agbonayinwa also claimed that the NDC’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, encouraged him to contest for the Senate under the party and purchase the necessary nomination forms.
According to him, the conversation took place after he met with the party leader to discuss his political future.
“He asked why I wasn’t considering a Senate seat under the NDC. At the time, I was focused on the House of Representatives, but after our discussion, I consulted with my political associates and decided to pursue the Senate ticket,” he said.
However, Agbonayinwa alleged that the same leader later denied ever advising him to buy the forms.
“To my surprise, during a meeting this morning, he claimed he never asked me to purchase the nomination forms. That was shocking, considering the role he played in encouraging me to run,” he added.
