The resolution was passed during plenary on Tuesday following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Sulaiman Gumi, the lawmaker representing Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State.

Lawmakers expressed deep concern over the continued rise in killings, kidnappings, bandit attacks, terrorism, and other violent crimes across the country, despite repeated assurances from security agencies and the Federal Government.

As part of the resolution, the House directed Ribadu and the service chiefs to appear before it to provide a detailed briefing on ongoing efforts to address insecurity.

The summons comes amid growing public outrage following recent attacks in parts of Oyo and Borno States, where several pupils, teachers, and school staff were abducted by armed groups.

Members of the House said the briefing would enable lawmakers to evaluate current security strategies and consider further legislative interventions aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

Tinubu Reassures Families of Abducted Victims

The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s earlier assurance that his administration is actively working to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers still in captivity.

In a statement issued on May 27 to mark Children’s Day, the President expressed sympathy for families affected by the kidnappings, acknowledging the pain of those whose children and loved ones remain missing.

“As we mark this special day… some Nigerian children and their teachers in Oyo and Borno should be with their families, but are being held captive by criminals,” Tinubu said.

He assured Nigerians that no victim had been forgotten, adding: “To those children, their parents, and their teachers, I say this as a father and your President: you are not forgotten. You are not abandoned.”

The President pledged continued efforts to rescue the victims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Tinubu also disclosed that he had directed security agencies to intensify intelligence-led operations and strengthen protection of schools, particularly in high-risk communities.

These measures, he said, include updated school vulnerability mapping, improved coordination between state authorities and security agencies, rapid response mechanisms, and enhanced community-based early warning systems.
