Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged that certain individuals are deliberately using kidnapping and other criminal activities to create the impression that Nigeria is unsafe.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He made the statement in Abuja during the inauguration of road projects held as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

Akpabio said some critics of the current administration have shifted focus away from infrastructure development, economic reforms, and progress in the petroleum sector, choosing instead to amplify negative narratives.

According to him, because they can no longer criticise government policies and projects effectively, some elements have resorted to actions aimed at creating tension and insecurity in the country.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, particularly against criminal groups involved in kidnappings for ransom, which he said are intended to spread fear and distort perceptions of national security.

Akpabio stated that such actors are intentionally fueling insecurity narratives to portray Nigeria as unsafe.

He also praised security agencies for their efforts, insisting they have performed well despite public criticism.

He said: “If they did not say that nothing is happening, how will they go for election? When they realized they can’t talk about projects, performance, good laws, transformation in the Petroleum industry, subsidy removal that has been promised for decades, and developments like high-rise buildings in Abuja, they resorted to recruiting young people to cause mayhem.”

“Be very vigilant and careful about people trying to kidnap for ransom. They are doing it to give the impression that Nigeria is not safe.”

“Our men and women in uniform have done tremendously well, even though many people will not acknowledge it.”

He added that political transitions are temporary, stressing that elections will come and go without defining the nation’s survival.
