She made the announcement on Monday in Abeokuta during the unveiling ceremony of the PDP deputy governorship candidate in Ogun State.

Party supporters welcomed her at the PDP secretariat upon her arrival from a recent trip to the United States.

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects in the 2027 governorship election, describing the party as well-positioned for victory.

She declared her support for the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, adding that she would address other political concerns at a later time.

She also hinted that she had several grievances but chose not to disclose them during the event.

Her return to the PDP follows her recent defection to the APC, where she had alleged marginalisation and dissatisfaction with party leadership.

She also criticised aspects of the APC’s internal processes, particularly the selection of its governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, claiming that some of her supporters were barred from attending key party events.

Although she later expressed support for the party’s decision at the time, she said subsequent developments and failed reconciliatory efforts influenced her decision to leave.

“I actually have a lot to say, there are many people that we shall call out, but I won’t say anything now until you organise that official welcome back into the party,” she said.

She added, “However, I want to greet our deputy governorship candidate. I am convinced that you will be our next deputy governor. I also thank our incoming governor from 2027, Hon Oladipupo Adebutu, because he has really tried to become governor of the state over several attempts.

“But this time, I believe God is saying it will be his turn now that I am rejoining the party.”

Iyabo Obasanjo had joined the APC earlier in the year after previously leaving the PDP.

She previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health from 2003 to 2007 and later represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 before relocating abroad after her re-election bid was unsuccessful.
