The meeting, organised by the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), came in the wake of controversies surrounding the APC’s nationwide primaries.
Speaking with journalists after the session, the chairman of the forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, said discussions centred on the outcome of the party’s primaries across the country, its performance in the recent Ekiti governorship election, and several bye-elections.
The meeting was attended by APC governors from Ekiti, Zamfara, Taraba, Lagos, Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom and Borno states, among others.
The party’s primaries, conducted in May, attracted widespread criticism over alleged voting irregularities, claims of candidate imposition and accusations of manipulation of delegate lists.
The disputes generated internal tension, forcing the party’s national leadership to delay the release of its final list of candidates while efforts were made to address complaints from aggrieved members.
According to Uzodimma, the governors agreed to maintain close collaboration with the party’s national leadership to reconcile dissatisfied members, harmonise political strategies and reinforce party unity ahead of the next general election.
He expressed satisfaction with the APC’s recent electoral performance, describing the party’s showing in the Ekiti governorship poll and various bye-elections as a positive sign ahead of the 2027 contest.
“We reviewed the outcome of the primaries across the federation, the Ekiti governorship election and the various bye-elections where our party performed impressively,” Uzodimma said.
“We have resolved to work towards solving the challenges facing our democratic space and ensuring that our people are better off.”
Beyond election preparations, the governors also deliberated on governance, democratic consolidation and measures aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians under APC-led administrations.
