Speaking on Friday during a visit to Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo, the IGP expressed concern over the increasing insecurity in the state, describing the situation as unacceptable.
“I am here because of the direction events are taking in Osun State,” Disu said.
“I have carefully reviewed the security situation over the past few months, including the number of deaths, violent clashes, and crises recorded. With a crucial election approaching, we will not tolerate any further breakdown of law and order.”
He assured residents that security agencies would pursue everyone found culpable in the violence.
“We will go after every individual involved in criminal activities in this state. The police will not condone unnecessary killings. This is an election, not a war,” he stated.
According to the IGP, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the zone had already been deployed to engage the state government and other stakeholders in efforts to prevent further violence.
Disu also revealed that security agencies had identified several groups allegedly connected to the unrest and directed the Commissioner of Police to take firm action against anyone disrupting public peace.
“You cannot take someone’s life and continue to move around freely. Those responsible will be brought to justice,” he said.
IGP Raises Allegation Over Suspects in Government House
The police chief disclosed that he had received reports alleging that some suspects linked to the violence were taking refuge inside the Osun State Government House.
“The Commissioner of Police briefed me that some suspects are allegedly hibernating in the Government House. If that information is true, then it raises serious concerns as to why suspects should be there,” Disu said.
He, however, stressed that all allegations would be thoroughly investigated and handled strictly in accordance with the law.
The IGP also appealed to parents to discourage their children from allowing themselves to be recruited as political thugs.
He warned that the police would deploy additional personnel to secure the election and ensure that anyone involved in political violence faced the full weight of the law.
“I urge parents to advise their children not to allow politicians to use them for violence. Only those who are alive will enjoy the benefits of any election,” he said.
Disu further directed the Osun State Commissioner of Police and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police supervising the zone to intensify efforts against criminal elements, warning that he did not want to receive further complaints about lapses in policing.
Adeleke Supports Arrest of Offenders
Responding, Governor Ademola Adeleke welcomed the IGP’s visit and expressed support for efforts to restore peace in the state.
The governor urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable, regardless of political affiliation.
“If you find any of my supporters committing a crime, arrest them. Even if it is my own son, arrest him,” Adeleke said.
