Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the President’s position has guided the FCT Administration’s infrastructure agenda since he assumed office.
According to him, a significant number of projects recently completed by the FCT Administration were originally awarded between 15 and 16 years ago but had been left unfinished.
“The President said we can’t abandon old projects. While we are executing new ones, we must also ensure that existing projects are completed,” Wike said.
He revealed that about 60 percent of the projects executed by the FCT Administration over the past three years were inherited projects that had been abandoned for more than a decade.
“If we had ignored them, Abuja would have suffered the consequences. Even if we focused only on new projects, people would still ask why previously awarded projects were left abandoned. That is why we made it a priority to complete those projects first, and today, we have finished no fewer than 70 percent of them,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Francis Nwifuru threatened Wike during a recent political rally in Abakaliki.
The state government accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of attempting to create unnecessary tension between Governor Nwifuru and the FCT Minister by misrepresenting the governor’s remarks at the endorsement rally for President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebeh, the government insisted that Governor Nwifuru never threatened Wike at any point during the event held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki.
