According to TVC, the arrest came shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant on Tuesday following Adeyemi’s failure to appear for trial.

Adeyemi is standing trial alongside two other defendants on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. The case is registered as FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025.

When the matter, listed as number 12 on the court’s cause list, was called, Adeyemi was absent from the courtroom.

Following his non-appearance, counsel representing the Inspector-General of Police, who is prosecuting the case, applied for a bench warrant to compel his appearance. Justice Umar granted the application and directed security agencies to arrest the defendant and produce him before the court.

Reports indicate that Adeyemi was taken into custody shortly after the court issued the warrant.

The charges against Adeyemi and his co-defendants were filed on November 27, 2025, by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki.

According to the prosecution, Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, an organisation the authorities allege does not exist.

The prosecution maintains that the defendants’ alleged actions form the basis of the eight-count charge currently before the court.

Among those listed as prosecution witnesses is the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila. Others expected to testify include Paul Emmanuel, Jeremiah Imoukhede, Ituah Sylvester, two officials from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation—Akimbo Shola and Adamu Balongu—as well as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The court is expected to continue proceedings after Adeyemi is formally arraigned following his arrest.
