According to the family, the pupil, identified as Taiwo, said the abductors frequently beat the children whenever they asked to see their relatives and survived largely on garri without sugar throughout their time in captivity.
The revelations were made by a family member during an interview with TVC News on Wednesday.
The relative said the child has continued to recount the ordeal since returning home, describing the harsh conditions under which the victims were held.
“When he saw you people (journalists), he started clinging to us. They really stressed them in the forest,” the family member said.
“He has been narrating everything to us. He said they beat him whenever he remembered us.”
According to the family, the experience has left the child deeply traumatised and still struggling with the emotional impact of the abduction.
They also disclosed that the kidnappers provided very little food during the period of captivity, with the children reportedly surviving mainly on garri without sugar.
“When we asked him what they gave them to eat, he said they usually gave them garri without sugar,” the relative added.
Child Still Traumatized After Rescue
Another member of the family described how the child remained frightened even after regaining freedom, reacting fearfully to unfamiliar faces.
“As soon as she saw you from afar, she clung to us,” the relative said.
Another voice heard in the background during the interview added, “She wanted to start running into the bush. She was shaking.”
The family said the child’s behaviour reflected the emotional and psychological trauma the victims endured while in captivity.
Another relative also recalled that the child repeatedly narrated how the abductors allegedly responded whenever the victims asked to see their families.
“They put them through a lot of suffering,” the family member said.
“She has been recounting her experience with the abductors since she returned. She said that whenever she asked to see her relatives, they would beat her.”
