ESUT Cracks Down, Suspends Lecturers Over Alleged Extortion, Misconduct

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has indefinitely suspended two lecturers in its Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (DEEE) over allegations of extortion and violations of the institution’s regulations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The affected staff members are Dr. Collins Ojeh and Mr. Emmanuel Eze.

The suspensions were conveyed in separate letters signed by the university’s Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu, and issued on Saturday in Enugu.

According to the university, the disciplinary action followed the findings and recommendations of a committee established to investigate allegations against the two lecturers.

In Ojeh’s case, the university said the Vice-Chancellor, acting on behalf of management, approved his indefinite suspension without pay, effective July 20, 2026.

ESUT stated that the decision was based on the committee’s findings regarding Ojeh’s alleged involvement in extortion and other breaches of the university’s regulations.

He was also directed to immediately hand over all university property in his possession to the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Similarly, Emmanuel Eze was placed on indefinite suspension with effect from July 20, 2026, pending the outcome of further investigations by the university’s Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.

The institution said his suspension was also based on the recommendations of the investigative committee, which examined allegations of extortion and violations of university rules.

Eze was likewise instructed to surrender all university property in his possession to the Head of Department.

ESUT did not provide specific details of the allegations levelled against either staff member.

Meanwhile, the university also issued a formal warning to the Acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Dr. Princewill Ene, over what it described as inadequate supervision of activities within and around the department.

The warning, contained in a letter dated July 21, 2026, was issued by the Vice-Chancellor following the recommendations of the investigative committee.

According to the university, Ene was cautioned for allegedly failing to effectively monitor activities in and around the department during his tenure as Acting Head.

Management warned that any future reports of similar lapses would attract stiffer disciplinary measures in line with the university’s regulations.
