The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has approved the immediate redeployment of 10 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to key commands, departments and formations across Nigeria.
The redeployments were announced in a police wireless signal issued by the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The directive, titled “Posting Senior Officers” and marked “Most Immediate,” was circulated to zonal commands, state commands, specialised formations, training institutions and relevant police departments for immediate implementation.
Although initial reports indicated that nine AIGs were affected, the official signal confirmed the redeployment of 10 senior officers.
Under the new postings, AIG Polycarp Emeka Nwonyi was assigned to Zone 9 Command, Umuahia, while AIG Obono Nnaghe Itam was appointed Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos.
AIG Bassey Samuel Ewa was deployed to Zone 15 Command, Maiduguri, and AIG Osagie John Agans-Irabor was posted to Zone 3 Command, Yola. AIG Monday Agbonika was assigned to Zone 5 Command, Benin.
The IGP also moved AIG Daniel Edobor Iyamah to the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, while AIG Isah Danladi Nda was redeployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Kaduna.
AIG Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima was posted to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja. Meanwhile, AIG Bello Rashid Afegbua was assigned to Zone 6 Command, Calabar, and AIG Betty Enekpen Otimenyin was redeployed to Zone 8 Command, Lokoja.
According to the signal, all postings take effect immediately.
The Force Headquarters directed departments responsible for personnel management, establishment and electronic records to update their databases to reflect the new assignments.
