Rufai Oseni Sparks Reactions With Warning On Peter Obi: ‘No Mysterious Accident

Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni has called for adequate security to be provided for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing that the former Anambra State governor’s safety must not be taken for granted.

Oseni made the appeal following a decision by the Federal High Court in Abuja to entertain a suit seeking an order compelling President Bola Tinubu to ensure maximum security protection for Obi.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, the broadcaster urged security agencies to safeguard the opposition leader, warning against any incident that could threaten his life before the next presidential election.

“Peter Obi must be protected at all costs. The unresolved circumstances surrounding the deaths of Bola Ige and Funsho Williams remind us that we should never take the safety of political leaders for granted,” Oseni said.

“We must not wake up to stories of a mysterious accident or any unexplained incident. He must remain alive, safe and available to participate in the next election.”

Oseni’s comments come months after Obi and a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Oyegun, reportedly escaped an attack by armed hoodlums in Benin City, Edo State.

The incident, which occurred in February 2026, allegedly involved gunmen who opened fire on Obi, Oyegun and members of the Obidient Movement as they travelled from the ADC secretariat to Oyegun’s residence.

Oshiomhole Dismisses Obi’s Presidential Bid

Meanwhile, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, has dismissed Peter Obi’s presidential ambition, arguing that the former governor lacks the long-term vision required to govern Nigeria effectively.

Speaking during an interview on TVC on Monday, Oshiomhole described Obi as a businessman whose approach to leadership is influenced by short-term calculations.

“Peter Obi is a trader. Traders are accustomed to short-term calculations rather than long-term projections. Their thinking is driven by quick turnover, usually within three to six months,” he said.

The former Edo State governor also questioned Obi’s political consistency, recalling that the former Anambra governor had once declared he would remain in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in honour of the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

According to Oshiomhole, Obi later abandoned that position after completing his tenure as governor, a development he cited while criticising the Labour Party leader’s political trajectory.
